A IDEAL SETTING, A CONCERNED CITY

French Riviera capital city and one of foreign tourists’ favorite destination is Nice, well known for its famous « Promenade des Anglais »and for an idyllic setting, thanks to its geographic location.

Its mild weather all year round and its diversity of landscapes are making the place unique in France for every amateur and pro cyclist.

Aware of the touristic interests linked to cycling, Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis is setting an array of facilities in order to increase and encourage cycling in this territory.

Thereby, thanks to the marking and signposting where are the roads for cyclist, over 155 km cycling paths are used all year long by bike lovers.

2018, Cycling is growing in the city

Besides its touristic attractiveness, Nice is also developping its cycling race offers, and launched «  Le Tour Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur » was created this year in order to fullfill the different needs in terms of performance !

With 7 stages, 768 kilometers and 19 000 meters in height difference, this thrilling routes was designed between the mountains and the sea to enjoy the landcape’s beauty and diversity.

This journey delighted all the cycling lovers, brougth them the chance to cycle through Mercantour’s highest mountain passes.

For example, the famous « col de le Bonette » (with a peak of 2715 meters high), well knowned but also feared because of its 23 kilometers of climbing.

Town’s mayor Christian Estrosi gave his statement on the first edition :

« This first edition of the Tour de la Métropole, settled between the 17th and the 23rd of June, gave the chance to all the competitors to discover our territory’s wealth, between sea and heights !… A real sport event,visited the heart of the city of Nice, but also outshines and hillsides , which became an extraordinary human adventure ! A sublime journeys  unlighted the contestants, joining our lanscapes beauties to a thrilling physical commitment. »

Beyond the sport stage, it was THE meeting for sharing and discovering !

The contestants had the privilege to cycle along with professionnals or ex-professionnals from the world of cycling like Steve Chainel or Audrey Cordon-Ragot for example.

Geoffroy Lequatre, ambassador for  the race with his own cycling brand G4 partnered the event and took part on the different stages of the race.

The official jerseys for the event were designed and furnished by G4 !

2019, “Le Tour Métropole” a notable event !

Due the the event’s success, there will be a 2019 edition and Mr Estrosi will be supporting it :

« Following the success of the last edition and the very positive comments from the contestants, I am glad to support the association for a second edition in 2019 and therefore for a new thrilling adventure. »

The journey will take part on a 816 kilometers courses, spread into 7 differents stages with 16 460 meters positive high difference in total and it will be an opportunity for the competitors to confront themselves against professionals and to cycle in ideal conditions, from the fabulous medditeranean landscapes to the Mercantour’s highest peaks, well secured roads with technical and medical assistance all along the race, provisions and supplies at the end of all finish lines, daily timing and ranking, top range individual monitoring : massage and cryotherapy sessions in option, technical advices from professional ambassadors and updates every evening after the stage.

2020, the biggest World Pro Cycling in the heart of the city!

The 2020 edition will be the opportunity to confirm de city’s capacity to welcome a high-scale cycling event, in order to focus on the 2020’s Tour De France departure at the end of June in Nice ! The « Grande boucle » organizers decided to trust the city’s reputation for the launch of the 107th edition of the Tourt.
