Over the next few days, in a series of short articles, we’re going to be introducing you to G4 and its founders Geoffroy Lequatre and Petra Harangi.
If you’re a fan of cycling, you’ll have seen pictures of riders relaxing – there’s a lot of hanging about in all professional sports – in their team’s line of casual clothing. Most of these clothing ranges induce pity rather than envy in the on-looker. Nonetheless, riders and team staff spend more time in these clothes than they do in their own choice of apparel.
While Geoffroy was riding for French ProContinental squad Agritubel, with whom he won the Tour of Great Britain in 2008, he produced designs for the team’s casual clothing. Not so unusual an offer given that Geoffroy has always loved drawing, painting and designing logos, customising jeans and other items of clothing. The range was an instant hit with everyone, particularly the riders.
Off the back of the success of his designs for Agritubel, friends and family encouraged him to create his own clothing line. So he did.
A germ of an idea was carefully nurtured. Geoffroy wanted to create co-ordinated cycling wear and casual clothes for everyone. Sportswear that was vibrant, stylish, co-ordinated, exciting and manufactured using the latest techniques and high-tech fabrics, often only those previously made available to professional athletes.
But Geoffroy was still riding professionally – this time for RadioShack – and didn’t want to entrust his newly born baby to just anyone. It made sense that his long-term partner in real-life, former Hungarian international triathlete Petra Harangi, assumed control of the day-today management of the company.
The pair has very complimentary skills. Geoffroy’s the blue sky thinker while Petra’s the one that turns those great ideas and designs into reality. However both share an all-consuming passion for perfection. Every design, whether it’s casual wear or cycling kit, is rigorously tested. Each item is put through its paces by professional and amateur athletes and then gone over with an eagle eyed fine tooth comb.
Perfection doesn’t come cheap but it does deliver outstanding value and style. You might not be able to ride as fast as Geoffroy, but you’ll look and feel as if you could in G4’s cycling kit. And, you’ll look as stylish as this pair in G4 casual too.
