109 kms, 1850 meters of drop, 5 climbs, this is what is waiting for you on March 16th during the www.parisnicechallenge.com/fr">Paris-Nice Challenge. Will your shave legs be sharped? Are you ready to compete against the final stage of Paris-Nice 2019?
No matter what is happening, we will detail you the course and the best way to overcome the difficulties as the kilometers go!
The special feature of this challenge
Unlike the classics Gran Fondo, the chronometers are only working in the climbs. Hence no stress, we push hard in mountain passes and take it easy during the downhills! Less risk of falling and less nervousness in the pack …
This year, two climbs are timed, the Châteauneuf côte (5.3 km to 4.3%), ranked in the second category, and the Peille côte (6.6 km to 6.8%). Remember, Tony Gallopin was victorious, taking the yellow leader’s jersey before the famous Eze mountain pass.
The right equipment
It is therefore two-timed hills that you will face, but the complete challenge itself offers 5 climbs in total. We are on the French Riviera and the sun will probably be among us on March 16. Nevertheless, it will be necessary to take with you a windbreaker to avoid getting cold in the downhills of the hinterland. Take your leg warmer and arm warmers for the start, as well as a summer base layer that will keep your upper body tempered.
During March, thunderstorms could kick up, so opt for our water-repellent rain jacket and our waterproof shoe covers.
Finally, get your most beautiful G4 outfit for an outing with elegance and performance!
Effort management
You have probably already seen what await you and the main difficulties of the race. We will try to give you the guidelines to succeed in passing the line without suffering too much while being strong at the right time.
It is 20 relatively flat kilometers that await you at the start of the stage, take the opportunity to spin the legs, warm up the best possible way and mentally prepare yourself for the effort. Do not forget to feed yourself to arrive with sufficient energy.
Then, comes the first climb of the day, the ascent to the village of Levens, barely longer than the Château Neuf climb, it will allow you to refine your pedal stroke and to increase the heartbeat before the first violent effort!
5.3 kilometers to let your strength speak up! No need to think any longer, we press the pedals in this regular climb that does not have a major difficulty. There is no need to think about what to do next, you will have plenty of time to recover and feed yourself during the descent and ascent of Col de Calaïsson. Follow a rolling downhill valley to join the dreaded Peille’s climb.
Unlike Châteauneuf, Peille is not a regular climb and has more difficulties. Do not be tricked by the first part of the climb that makes you want to go harder! it may exhaust you in the last 3 kilometers.
At the top, enjoy the view, spinning the legs and have fun until you arrive.
Stay connected, G4 loves Paris-Nice!
