G4 the premium cycling brand, created by a former professional cyclist, chose different compression fabrics on his men’s and women’s cycling compression short
We will explain you why we chose this fabrics, what are the effects and benefits of these high-end bike shorts during your training or racing.
Geoffroy Lequatre, founder and designer of G4, chose different compression fabrics for his entire men’s and women’s collection.
His professional cyclist friends supported him in this choice and tested the different models of shorts before going into production. The cycling shorts are the essential element for a cycling practice.
« “What I look at first when I choose fabrics is quality! Our fabrics come from the biggest European manufacturers: Italians, Swiss, French or Austrians, to be sure that the compression is pleasant to wear and soft to the touch and that it has the necessary elasticity for a long distance outing. We master new manufacturing techniques on the market and all our products are manufactured in Italian houses with specific know-how. “»
Compression fabrics have a minimum of 22-24% elasticity.
The main effect of this fabric is the good maintenance on the bike. Our shorts offer a very nice feeling of compression. 10-15 seconds at the time of putting on, we can feel a feeling of compression, to be too tight, then the circulation is activated and our body adapts itself to this new sensation, different.
Geoffroy chooses 4 to 5 different fabrics which it can then associate according to their technicality with the different parts of compressions more or less high or according to the aesthetics of the shorts or collections.
For my 1st model od Men compression bib short and Women cycling bike short, jI propose a unique fabric on all the shorts to which I add straps anti allergen. For women’s bike shorts I opted for a special cut at the belly, because of the absence of straps, for excellent support. As soon as I get technical I add a second compression fabric AERO, or LUXOR or a warp and weft with laser cuts for example.
Although the compression fabric already has a great aerodynamic capacity, compared to a classic fabric, but mixing with a 2nd material, this gives cyclist shorts similar to those of professionals, ideal for distances or a time trial .
The cut of the shorts with compression fabric should follow the placement of the muscles to ensure the effectiveness of the tissues. For maintaining the pelvis, we opted for a high waist, to allow to maintain the pelvis with the right position on the bike saddle and also it allows not to move in the shorts but to the whole of the body to follow the pedaling movement.
The compression fabric also helps to maintain the cycling pad and even when you have to stand up on the pedals the cycling pad remains in the right place!
To finish the shorts at the bottom of the shorts I chose an elastic that keeps the same compression on the thighs as the top.
The advantages and benefits of the compression shorts:
The more the effort is intense, the more the body consumes oxygen. People often talk about VO2 Max, or maximum oxygen consumption. It is an indicator of the potential performance of an individual in an endurance test, namely his ability to deliver oxygen to cells that turn them into energy for metabolism.
By playing on the venous return, the compression devices have a limited impact on the first circuit of the blood system (arteries and oxygen distribution to the cells of the body) which transports the loaded blood into fuel (oxygen, nutrients).
In the same way that the compression device accompanies the elimination of lactic acid and toxin after exercise, it acts just as much during the effort. Compression tissue is conducive to increased muscle power (anaerobic capacity) and decreased cramping.
In addition, by compressing the muscles and joints, the compression devices provide better support and reduce oscillatory movements. These parasitic vibrations resulting from the jarring of the muscles can be at the origin of muscular lesions. The compression devices thus indirectly reduce the risk of injury. Risk also decreased by thermal regulation that prevents overheating of the tendons and muscles.
Moreover, the fact that compression devices are prohibited in competitive cycling events (considered as “a clothing equipment likely to influence the rider’s performance”) nevertheless demonstrates a certain efficiency in silencing the athletes. more skeptical. For our part we use an active fabric to be in good standing with the opinion of the UCI and thus be able to wear our shorts during competitions as in training.
COMPRESSION IMPROVES THE VENOUS RETURN OF THE CYCLIST: venous return, that is to say the “force” with which the blood rises from the legs to the heart, allows better elimination of “toxins” from the blood, better “Wash” the muscles. And it limits the risk of injury the following days.
Compression allows the optimization of recovery between training sessions and competitions. Faster recovery is an important factor that will make it easier for athletes to connect sessions (or competitions) and influence their progress.
