And this year, Santa Claus was the big boss of ASO, the company that organizes the Tour de France, who made an unexpected announcement for the city of Nice: the Tour de France 2024 will arrive at the Promenade des Anglais with a new time trial! A major announcement a few weeks before Christmas for the people of Nice and the entire metropolis and the Côte d’Azur! The international event of world cycling will land on the French Riviera on July 20 and 21, 2024!
No finish on the Champs-Elysées
The Olympic Games in Paris are having a positive effect on cycling in the Côte d’Azur. The Tour de France will have its Grand Finale in Nice, with an atypical route on the heavenly roads between the sea and the mountains. In 2024, Nice will host the arrival of the last stage of the Tour de France. For the first time in over a century, the Tour de France will not end on the Parisian cobblestones. The reason is the organization of the 2024 Olympic Games, which require logistical measures that can not be implemented on the Champs-Élysées. The last stage will therefore be an individual time trial, which will bring the Grande Boucle to a close.
Geoffroy Lequatre, ex-professional cyclist (with several TDF to his account) and founder and director of G4 was at this press conference. He commented on this important announcement:
This is a historic moment for cycling, for the Tour de France and of course for Nice! To be the only city outside of Paris to host a Tour de France finish since the race’s inception in 1903 is just legendary! I am proud for the region and the heritage of Nice to be able to host the most beautiful sporting event in the world! Congratulations to Christian Estrosi and all his teams for having succeeded in this accomplishment and for having been able to establish a strong relationship with the representatives of ASO. More than a sports project, there is a real passion and loyalty that has made the arrival of the Tour de France 2024 in the city of Nizza la Bella possible! I simply can’t wait to live this moment of history.
This last stage against the rise between Monaco and Nice, will finish in beauty a Tour 2024 which will make emerge a Champion! It will be the only one to win the Tour de France in a city other than the capital. We are curious and excited to discover the course of 2024 of a Tour de France that will end on a well-deserved vacation!
